Engineering expo
The UW-Platteville College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science hosts an annual expo in which departments, programs, students and organizations throughout the College of EMS highlight achievements in engineering, mathematics and science. SAE is among the participants, showcasing their current innovations as well as providing an interactive learning experience (The Pioneer 600) for the event's patrons. This event, run by SAE members, gives light to the effects of friction and rotational mass, common problems dealt with by todays engineers.
Adopt a highway
Platteville SAE sponsors a section of Highway 81 near Platteville, Wis. This section begins at Ellenboro Road and extends 2 miles northwest towards Lancaster, Wis. Through this program, SAE enjoys the team building experience of coming together to clean the roadside while providing a pleasent view for area motorists.
"M" Lighting
In recent years, UW-Patteville’s SAE student chapter has been closely involved with the "M," the famous university landmark on Platteville mound. Every year the SAE teams provide much of the volunteer manpower required to maintain the "M." This includes whitewashing the limestone rocks each spring as well as each fall clearing brush and maintaining the steps. The highlight is of course the "M" lighting during Homecoming where members help to set up and ignite over 240 kerosene lanterns illuminating the perimeter of the "M." Other student organizations such as Society of Women Engineers, Society of Physics Students, and Chi Epsilon have also helped with events at the "M." This collaborative work has helped SAE to build strong relationships throughout the campus community.
