platteville's FORMULA team
UW-Platteville's Formula SAE team is a motivated group of undergraduate students from a wide variety of disciplines including, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Industrial Technology Management, Business Administration, and many others. The Formula Team demands students to apply their classrooms skills, while integrating the design process of research, design, simulate, build, validate and continuously improve designs. It is a relatively small team, and growing rapidly. The team is currently designing their next car, PR24, around a Yamaha CP2 engine that is controlled by a stand-alone Microsquirt ECU which allows us to tune the engine for power and efficiency. The use of aluminum and composites has increased immensely over the past several years and we are excited to be utilizing carbon fiber for many parts on this year’s competition vehicle. The last vehicle we took to competition, PR20, placed 17th overall and took 3rd for fuel efficiency at the Formula SAE event at the Michigan International Speedway
FORMULA SAE SERIEs
The International Formula SAE program is an engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate students. The competition provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition. The engineering design goal for teams is to develop and construct a single-seat race car for the non-professional weekend autocross racer with the best overall combination of design, construction, performance and cost. For more information on the competition please visit the Formula SAE Series website.
