platteville's clean snowmobile team
UW-Platteville's Clean Snowmobile SAE Team is a motivated group of undergraduate students from a wide variety of disciplines including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, industrial technology management, business administration, agriculture and many others. The Platteville Clean Snowmobile Team is currently involved in modifying two snowmobiles to reduce emissions and noise levels, while increasing performance for the international competition held in Houghton, Mich. The team competes in two different classes: Recreational Class and Diesel Utility Class. For the Recreational Class, the current chassis is a 2020 Yamaha Sidewinder which is powered by a Ford 1.0 L EcoBoost. In the Diesel Class, a Kubota D902 is in a 2022 Yamaha VK540. Both sleds have many custom modifications, including turbos, custom ported tracks, exhaust systems, cooling systems etc.
sae CLEAN SNowmobile challenge
The SAE International Clean Snowmobile Challenge (CSC) program is an engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate students. The program provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition that tests their designs to reengineer an existing snowmobile to reduce emissions and noise. Participants’ modified snowmobiles will compete in a variety of events including emissions, noise, fuel economy/endurance, acceleration, handling, static display, cold start and design. For more information on the competition please visit the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge.
